A toxicological study was made on V. parahaemolyticus of human origin to clarify V. parahaemolyticus food poisoning. The toxin, which was lethal in mice, was isolated and purified from the supernatant solution of V. parahaemolyticus culture solution and was determined as a heat-resistant hemolytic toxin. The physical-chemical properties, biological activity, lethal activity, target organs, receptors, action mechanism of the heat-resistant hemolytic toxin and the role of the heat-resistant hemolytic toxin in human V. parahaemolyticus infection were discussed.
