The estimation of the effect of some hormonal analogues on four insect species of santitary-medical importance

The effects are described of some juvenile hormone analogues on 4 insect species of medical or sanitary importance, which were obtained in laboratory experiments in Romania. In Anopheles atroparvus Van Thiel (labranchiae atroparvus), none of the compounds administered to larvae in the last instar at 1 and 2 p.p.m. significantly reduced adult emergence. In Musca domestica L., methoprene (ZR-515), applied at 500-2000 mu g/50g breeding medium containing prepupae, reduced adult emergence by 98-100% according to the amount used. In Cimex lectularius L., 1% hydroprene (ZR-512) used to treat third-instar nymphs resulted in only 15% survival of the moult to the adult and the emergence of sterile adultoids that soon died; treatment of newly emerged adults resulted in the production of eggs and nymphs of which only 3% completed their development. In Blattella germanica (L.), JTC-1 [3-[5-(4-ethylphenoxy)-3-methyl-3-pentenyl]-2,2-dimethyloxirane] applied to the food of nymphs in different instars at 2000 mu g/2g, resulted in different degrees of sterility as well as in morphogenetic effects; nymphs treated in the sixth or seventh instar gave rise to adults that were all sterile or abnormal or both, and adults treated at different ages had lower rates of fertility than the normal.
