The incorporation of cholesterol-14C into total androgen or corticosterone was estimated in vitro in tissues from normal rats or rats given a diet deficient in vitamin E for up to 280 days. Incorporation of 14C into corticosterone and androgens by adrenal tissue was similar. Peak value was less and was reached later in deprived rats than in those given vitamin E. Incorporation of 14C into total androgens by testis tissue from deprived rats followed the same pattern as for controls. Peak values were similar but after peak passed tissue from deprived rats incorporated less 14C than that for controls. Activity of DELTA 5-3 beta -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase was slightly decreased in adrenal tissue and significantly decreased in testis and ovary of deprived rats.
