From studies with 10 bitches, 4 of which had pyometra, an account is given of the blood vessels and nerves of the ovary, uterus, vagina, urinary bladder and urethra in relation to ovariectomy and hysterectomy in healthy and pyometra-affected dogs. The plexus pelvinus lies dorsolateral and extraperitoneal in the wall of the pelvic cavity, its central part medial to the ala ossisilii. Branches of the plexus to different organs accompany the corresponding arteries and veins, forming clearly separated nerve bundles. It is concluded that because of the anatomical relationships there is little chance of ovario-hysterectomy damaging the nerves of the muscles which are active in micturition, either in healthy bitches or in those affected with pyometra. The chance of causing direct damage to the central part of the plexus pelvinus during ovario-hysterectomy is less in bitches with pyometra than in healthy ones because of the enlargement and dislocation of the uterus.
