Real-time ultrasound equipment was used to detect ovulation and diagnose pregnancy in four Beagle bitches. The anoestrous bitches were treated with PMS and HCG and were mated two days after ovulation. Three of the bitches showed oestrus 10-11 after treatment and ovulation occurred two to three days following the onset of oestrus. Two of the bitches became pregnant; gravid uteri were first visible on the 24th day of gestation and fetuses were first visible after 32 days. Abdominal scanning by the ultrasonic analyser proved reliable for estimating the time of ovulation.
