Histochemically demonstrable tetrahydrofolate-D /day s.c.). One day after the end of treatment, the tetrahydrofolate-D reaction was much more intense than in the controls, in both the red and the white series; immediately afterwards, most elements exhibited a much less intense reaction. Only from the 10th day onwards did the reaction pattern return to normal. There apparently is a first stage marked by a higher requirement of products of the tetrahydrofolate metabolism for cell maturation and proliferation and a later stage of reduced availability of biochemical precursors. The fact that both the red and the white series are involved may suggest the existence of humoral factors conditioning the activity of the whole bone marrow or the maturation of not yet committed stem cells.
