Results of radiation treatment of naturally occurring animal tumors

Three major sources of radiation were used-a 250 kv X-ray machine, a cobalt-60 teletherapy unit, and a cyclotron in the treatment of 210 dogs and cats. Many tumours responded satisfactorily to radiation therapy as expected, such as perianal adenomas and venereal granulomas, some carcinomas quite well and most sarcomas poorly. Surprisingly, three canine fibrosarcomas showed complete regression without recurrence for at least two years and the treatment of melanomas was encouraging.
