NHCP activity was studied in leg muscle of 10, 12 and 15 day old embryos, newly hatched and 4 day old chicks by means of electrophoretic analysis. The MW of the different fractions in different stages ranged from 10,000-200,000. The number of high and medium MW fractions increased from the 15th day of incubation to a maximum on the 4th day of life. The number of low MW fractions remained relatively constant. On the 10th day of incubation the low and medium MW fractions dominated; from the 12th day of incubation to the 4th day after hatching, the medium MW fractions were most numerous. Low MW fractions were implicated in control of division processes, while those of high MW intervened in derepression of determined gene sites related to biosynthesis of specific proteins.
