Thirteen clinically healthy children 4 to 12 years of age are studied for characterization of various indices of Fe metabolism. Fe absorption was in the range of 9 plus or minus 4%, plasma Fe clearance 68 plus or minus 13.8 min and Fe incorporation in erythrocytes 93 plus or minus 9.4%. Other indices are discussed. A complete profile on studies of Fe metabolism can be done in selected cases only and not as a routine investigation.
