Attempted infection of sheep with Echinococcus granulosus equinus

Echinococcus granulosus equinus protoscoleces, removed from cysts from livers of horses and suspended in sterile isotonic saline were inoculated intraperitoneally in 5 sheep about 9 months old. Each sheep also received streptomycin sulphate and sodium penicillin G. One sheep died 2 days later and the others were slaughtered after 4 or 11 months. No evidence of hydatid infection was detected in any of the sheep.
