Bacteriocinogenesis in cultures of salmonella isolated in Bulgaria. I. Type bacteriocins in several salmonellae

A total of 1645 strains of Salmonella organisms isolated in Bulgaria were studied for the production of bactericins in the course of three years (1971-1973). The strains were isolated from farm and wild animals and birds, food products, environment, forage, human beings, poikilothermic animals, and insects. Seventy-two of them (4.37 per cent) proved bacteriocinogenic. The following types of bacteriocins were established: I+V, B+F+V, F+I+V, B+Y+V, E+F+Y+V, E+F+V, B+V, B+YmF.
