Aotus trivirgatus monkeys were infected with Plasmodium brasilianum. The parasitaemia reached a peak of 2% after 2 months and then declined to a low level chronic infection. In the urine, the total protein, albumin, and gamma globulin increased, expecially after the peak parasitaemia, and 2 new proteins of low molecular weight also appeared. Infection with P. falciparum produced smaller and briefer proteinuria in spite of much higher parasitaemia; only one new protein was detected in the urine. The suitability of the Aotus - P. brasilianum system as a model for the study of renal immunopathology in human malaria is discussed.
