The mutagenic effect of substances diffusing from seeds treated with chemical mutagens

When seeds of the winter wheat Mironovka 808 were treated with ethyleneimine and N-nitroso-N-ethylurea and mixed with untreated seeds, the metabolites diffusing from the treated seeds increased the number of chromosome aberrations in the untreated seeds. The aberrations induced by the metabolites contained fewer acentric fragments and more chromosome bridges than those induced by the chemical mutagens.
