Rats were given a diet with 45% of total energy as plant oil and 15% ethanol as only source of liquid for 3 months. They were given coenzyme A 1 mg/kg bodyweight intraperitoneally daily. Enzyme activities were estimated in the soluble fraction of liver homogenates. Coenzyme A significantly increased the activity of malic enzyme, citrate lyase and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase. Fatty acid synthetase and glycolytic kinase activity, which was decreased by the diet high in fat, was not increased by ethanol or coenzyme A.
