Bile from meat animals is used for flavouring and medicinal purposes in Sudan. It is offered for sale enclosed in pieces of sheep or cattle intestine. All of 170 samples of cattle and sheep bile purchased in three towns yielded Gram-negative bacilli; four yielded Salmonella wien braenderup and senegal. Of 194 bile samples drawn aseptically from slaughtered cattle, 57 were sterile; none yielded Salmonella.
