Pesticide residues in meat--orientation studies in abbatoir animals and various wild animals

The concentration of organochlorine pesticide was above the official limits in 8.5% of 1290 samples of body fat. In pigs the pesticide content was related to age, but in cattle there was little difference between age groups. Pesticide levels were highest in the fat of pheasants, 29 of the 62 samples (48%) being above the limits. The difference between the wild pheasant and the domestic animals in the pesticide content in fatty tissue throws some doubt on the usefulness of coupling tolerance levels to fat content, as the pheasant has a lower fat content than domestic animals.
