Thirty 3-month-old chickens (ten White Leghorn, ten Fayoumi and ten Baladi) were inoculated i/v with infective blood. Examination of blood revealed numerous spirochaetes and progressive decrease in erythrocyte number and haemoglobin concentration. The predominant gross lesions were hyperplasia and mottling of the spleen, which histologically exhibited cellular infiltration, and swelling of the arterial endothelia. The liver also exhibited cellular infiltration, and granular and fatty degeneration of the hepatocytes.
