The administration of 50% oil solution of essentiale to rats with carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatitis suppressed the inhibitory effect of CCl-4 on NADPH-cytochrome P-450, NADH-cytochrome-b-5-reductase and UDP-glucuronyl transferase activities as well as reduced ethylmorphine N-demethylation rate in liver microsomes. Addition of diethylnicotinamide to essentiale increased the enzyme-protective effect of the latter.
