From 1966 to 1973, 177 cases of poisoning in cattle were reported to the Centre. The most common sources of poison were fertilizers (28%), then industrial chemicals (17%), pesticides (17%), herbicides (9%), fungicides, or wood or seed preservatives (9%) and drugs (5%). Of 377 animals poisoned, 83 (25%) died; 36 of urea poisoning, 10 from organochlorines, 13 from cholesterol inhibitors and 4 from mineral oil distillates. The probability of morbidity and mortality following the ingestion of the various classes of poison is tabulated. Total morbidity and mortality from all poisons, per 100000 head of cattle, were calculated to be 3 and 0.75, respectively.
