Clinical significance of increased serum myoinositol levels

Serum myoinositol was estimated in 70 consecutive male patients. There was a direct correlation between the degree of renal function indicated by blood urea values and inositol. There were abnormally high values for inositol in patients with uraemia of prerenal, renal and postrenal origin. Treatment of renal tract infection reduced inositol as well as blood urea.
