One rabbit may be used for 4 or 5 tests, and a report may be obtained in 36-48 hrs. Segregated female rabbits are given 1% novocaine infiltration, a laporotomy is performed, and the ovaries and uterus are examined before inj. of the urine. If the organs look normal the incision is closed, and 15 cc. of urine are injected in the marginal ear vein and repeated in 24 hrs. After 48 hrs. the incision is reopened under local anesthesia and the ovaries examined. The incision is then closed again. Of 25 cases there were 19 positive and 6 negative tests. Of the 19 positive tests, 16 were normal pregnancies. 2 ectopics and one a case of menopausal syndrome. The earliest positive test was demonstrated 7 days after a missed period.
