The response of human lactating mammary gland to intravenous administration of oxytocin was measured in 186 women using Friedman's plethysmographic method (see DSA 23). The latent period of the response to oxytocin tended to decrease as the dose of oxytocin was increased from 0.8 to 2O4.8 mil. Min. dose of oxytocin capable of causing intramammary pressure changes was 0.l rail. There was no consistent relationship between the dose of oxytocin and the degree or duration of pressure changes.
