Sera from 8 Schistosoma mansoni-infected patients with portal hypertension and hypersplenism was processed into 7S and 19S fractions and their reactivity to S. mansoni adult antigen in the indirect haemagglutination test using tanned sheep cells was assessed. The majority of haemagglutinating antibodies proved to be of the immunoglobulin 7S group, probably IgG.
