Use of anti-idiotypic antibodies in approaches to immunoprophylaxis of schistosomiasis

The use of anti-idiotypic antibodies in approaches to immunoprophylaxis of schistosomiasis is illustrated with some of the encouraging results acquired with monoclonal or polyclonal anti-idiotypic antibodies raised against 2 monoclonal antibodies that exhibit marked in vitro and in vivo effector functions toward Schistosoma mansoni schistosomula. The possibilities offered by anti-idiotypic antibodies in the fine dissection of immunity to schistosomes are discussed.
