86 women used a liberal modification of the temperature rhythm method during 1265 cycles. Of 10 unplanned conceptions (pregnancy index 9.5), there was only 1 case where pure error of method was involved; in the remainder of cases, it was a matter of incorrect application of the method by inadequately instructed couples. Only 1 failure was recorded in a woman who submitted her records to a doctor for evaluation. All the remaining women who became pregnant evaluated the temperature curves themselves.
