The min. inhibitory conc. of clotrimazole ranged from 0.5 to 4 mu g/ml against clinical isolates of C. albicans. Clotrimazole was fungistatic at 2 mu g/ml and fungicidal above 20 mu g/ml. Results presented suggest that clotrimazole may act primarily by damaging the permeability barrier of sensitive organisms.
