The study used the sample of 94 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. The analysis was applied to determine the level of nitric oxide metabolites in blood serum and tear, condition of end products of lipid peroxidation and activity of catalase in lacrimal fluid and also indicators of lipid metabolism in blood. The higher level of atherogenic lipids in blood was detected in the group of patients with glaucoma as compared with control group. The patients with glaucoma also characterized by increased amount of malonic dialdehyde in tear, decreasing activity of catalase and increase of concentration of nitric oxide and its metabolites in blood serum and lacrimal fluid. These occurrences testify the activation of free radical oxidation, suppression of antioxidant system of defense and presence of endothelium dysfunction under this kind of pathology.
