Some 40 samples of human milk collected from women in rural areas of Colorado in 1971-72 were analysed for residues of organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). The highest residues were those of p,p'DDE, which ranged from 19 to 386 parts per 109. Residues of p,p'DDT ranged from 7 to 109 part per 109 and those of beta BHC, o,p'DDT, dieldrin, heptachlor epoxide, and p,p'DDD ranged from only to trace to 38, 13, 11, 5 and 5 parts per 109, respectively. Residues of p,p'DDE and p,p'DDT were found in all the samples and beta BHC in 87.5% of them. PCB occurred in some samples.
