The action of morantel tartrate against nematodes in sheep

Lambs experimentally infected with nematodes were given morantel tartrate at 10 mg/kg body-weight at intervals after infection and the improved critical test was used to determine activity. Efficacies obtained against 2, 7, 14 and 28-day-old worms, respectively, were: Haemonchus contortus 98.6, 62.7, 100 and 99.3%; Ostertagia circumcincta 98.9, 87.4, 98.9 and 99.9%; Trichostrongylus axei 92.0, 99.9, 99.9 and 99.9%; and T. colubriformis 99.7, 94.3, 88.1 and 97.9%. Against, 2, 6, 12 and 21-day-old Nematodirus battus, efficacies of 100, 99.9, 100 and 100%, respectively, were obtained.
