Field trials with Exhelm (morantel tartrate) and vitamin A in sheep in Niger

From May till December, 1987, a field study with vitamin A and morantel tartrate was conducted in a herd of sheep. The study showed that there was a significant effect of weight gain attributable to vitamin A at a dose rate of 2500 IU/kg body weight but not to morantel tartrate (7.5 mg/kg). The lowest mean strongyle egg counts were seen in sheep treated with morantel tartrate (1021 +or- 119 epg). Egg counts in the control group of sheep were 1415 +or- 135 and in the vitamin A only group and vitamin A /morantel tartrate treated group 1711 +or- 179 and 1554 +or- 164, respectively. Vitamin A treatment also appeared to improve reproductive rates. Another paper by Metzel, J.C.; Lindenmayer, J.M.
