Ixodes kazakstani Olen. & Sorokoumov occurs in the Soviet Union in Kirgizia, Turkmenia and Kazakhstan, usually in thickets on the banks of streams, rivers and lakes. It is normally found on small mammals and birds, but readily attacks man. Studies on its ecology were carried out in 1969 near Talas, Kirgizia, where it was mainly found in habitats near the ground, in which the conditions of temperature and humidity are most stable. Larvae were active from mid-June to mid-August and nymphs from May to October. Adults showed two peaks of activity, one in spring and the other in the autumn. They were most numerous in the autumn and were rare from mid-June until early August.
