Changes in the abundance of ixodes ticks in the land reclamation zones of the Novgorod region

Observations in the changes in the abundance of Ixodes persulcatus and Dermacentor pictus ticks were carried out in 1967-1975 in areas of land reclamation works in the Novgorod region [USSR]. A clear-cut increase in the population density of ixodids was observed during the first years after drainage. The population density of I. persulcatus in control, i.e., beyond the drainage zone, remained relatively stable. A low level of abundance of hosts, cricetine rodents, did not exert a significant influence on population growth of ixodid ticks in the years after drainage.
