Bimodality of seasonal abundance in Ixodes dammini

The author comments on a paper by M.L. Wilson & A. Spielman [see Journal of Medical Entomology (1985) 22: 408-414] in which those authors claim that there is a unimodal seasonal pattern of activity for larvae and nymphs of Ixodes dammini on small mammals in Massachusetts, in contrast to the bimodal frequencies reported in Connecticut by A.J. Main et al. [see Journal of Medical Entomology (1982) 19: 655-664]. The reasons given by Spielman and colleagues for this discrepancy are held to be erroneous. The author and his colleagues consider that they have observed a major and a minor peak in numbers of larvae and nymphs in both 1979 and 1980, as well as in several other years.
