The occurrence of what appeared to be hybrid adult females of I. dammini and I. scapularis was noted in Cape May, New Jersey, in the autumn of 1987. Hybrid specimens had internal spurs of coxa I diagnostic for both species, and intermediate forms were also detected. It is suggested that these hybrids are a result of the climatic conditions operating in New Jersey, and that this is why I. dammini-I. scapularis hybrids have not been found elsewhere on the Atlantic coast of the USA.
