Ticks are dangerous blood-sucking ectoparasites of medical and veterinary importance. They serve as reservoirs and vectors of pathogens and cause direct skin damage by feeding. Tick saliva contains pharmacologically-active molecules directed against the host's immune system and effector pathways. This article discusses the immunopathogenesis of tick infestation.
