Evidence is presented that measurement of serum cholesterol values varies between pathologists and between laboratories to such an extent that uncertainty arises whether a given patient's concentration is below an upper safe limit of 260 mg/100 ml [Standard variations for the estimation within and between pathologists or laboratories are not given].
