Effect of acid-base changes and dehydration on renal medullary production of ammonia

The results of experiments with kidney cortex slices from rats and medulla from dogs or rats given NH4Cl suggest that medullary production of NH3 is affected by changes in extracellular fluid pH and by dehydration, and that medullary and cortical ammoniagenesis are regulated by different factors.
