Pharmacological studies with water soluble fraction of alcoholic extract of powdered seeds of Daucus carota, Linn., have been conducted. Chemical tests indicate the presence of alkaloids. Pharmacological studies revealed the presence of cholinergic and papavarine-like active principles, and probably also a cardiotonic principle. Further isolation of active principles in water-soluble fraction of alcoholic extract and their pharmacological study is in progress.
