Host range and bioassay studies of iris severe mosaic virus (ISMV) were carried out by inoculating healthy iris plants with the sap of ISMV-infected plants. Alongside this, iris cultivars Blaauw and Bluemagic from Himachal Pradesh, India were screened for the presence of ISMV by ELISA using virus specific antibodies. None of the inoculated plants showed any symptoms even after 3 weeks of inoculation. Both the tested cultivars became positive for ISMV, with Bluemagic exhibiting more severe infection than Blaauw. Notes are presented on the morphology of the virus, as well as its DNA sequence and corresponding amino acid sequence.
