Results are of a survey in Mogadishu City in 1971; anthropometric results will be published later. In 2 areas of the city, Hodon and El-gab, diet was studied by 24-h recall. Daily energy intake was 2500 to 3000 kcal per person. Mean protein intake was 52.8 g in Hodon and 52.3 g in El-gab. It appeared to rise or fall with income. Fat intake was generally high and was not related to either income or education. Intake of vitamin A was low, about 1200 IU, and so was that of thiamin. Ascorbic acid intake was adequate only for families of higher education. Cu intakes were low except for the highest educational level in El-gab and the highest incomes in Hodon. A brief comparison is made between the results of this survey and of one made in 1963-64 when the energy intake was lower.
