Peoples and religions pass but superstitions remain. The Middle Ages Saints and their touching golden legend have fallen into oblivion. They only interest the historian or the folk-lore amateur.° It is kind to rouse up Fiacrius from his historic sleep. He is no longer our rival from the technical viewpoint. He deserves to be the "boss" of the French corporation of proctologists. But we can do better. As a matter of fact the two most popular saints in France-a country where racism has never been known were foreigners. Saint Martin (born in 316 AD at Szyombathely-died in 397 at Candes, now Depart. of Indre et Loire) was a Hungarian who became a Roman legionnaire. Our Good Saint Fiacrius was a Scott. This can be an excellent reason to make of him the protector of international Proctology.
