In Japan, the screening for PKU is still carrying on with urine specimens in most prefecture, but the screening with Guthrie's method has been adopted in several institutions since 1968 and the multiple screening was started by screening laboratories in three of them. The screening laboratories in five institutions listed above have received blood samples taken from general ne":'.born babies born in several areas in Japan, and, at same time, have received a small number of special specimens which taken from babies in high risk families or suspected PKU infants. In this report, the resull up to the beginning of Oct., 1973 was summarized.
