Two Saint Bernard puppies, blind since birth, were found on clinical examination to have buphthalmos and microphthalmos, acorea, and collapsed anterior chambers. Gross and microscopic examination disclosed multiple ocular congenital defects including microphthalmia, buphthalmia, anterior synechia, acorea, and aphakia. The retinas were detached and dysplastic. Both dogs had marked internal hydrocephalus. The eyes of three other Saint Bernard pups submitted for pathologic examination showed similar ocular changes. The cause of these defects was not determined.
