Inoculation of Agrostis palustris with 500 or 1,000 Tylenchorhynchus dubius resulted in significant reduction of dry weights of leaves and roots after 90 days' growth at temperatures of 16, 21 and 32 deg C, but not at 27 deg C. Gross symptoms were most obvious at 16 deg C. T. dubius also reduced leaf and root weights of Poa pratensis and the nematodes multiplied from 300 to 1,290/pot in 90 days. The nematodes were seen to feed primarily on root hairs and epidermal cells immediately behind the meristematic region, only the stylet penetrating the cells and no necrosis appearing at feeding sites.
