Thirty patients were entered into a double-blind crossover study of ibuprofen 400 mg versus paracetamol 900 mg, taken every four to six hours as required. Of the 22 patients who completed the study, ibuprofen was significantly superior to paracetamol in reducing headache severity and duration, doctor's assessment of effectiveness and patient preference. Nausea and vomiting were also reduced by ibuprofen.
