Surgeons may request the anesthesiologist to administer dyes intravenously to anesthetized patients. Neither clinician may appreciate the recommended dose or possible hazards associated with the use of these drugs and may consider these compounds innocuous. This report reviews the indications, dose, and potential hazards of intravenous indigo carmine, fluorescein, and methylene blue.
