The effect of storage temperature on the second day methylene-blue test

The purpose of the study was to show whether or not the methylene-blue test can be postponed to the 2nd day. The milk samples were preserved at 3 different temp. 8-10 deg C, 5-7 deg C and 2-4 deg C and the storage time was 16-22 h. The test indicated that the methylene-blue test could be postponed to the next day satisfying the practical needs if the samples were kept at 2-4 deg C. At this temp., the results of the 2nd day methylene-blue test differed statistically not more than P < 0.05 from the results of the 1st day methylene-blue test and the % of quality class changes was 2.9.
