The literature on the link between human health and the intake of protein carbohydrates and fats is reviewed under the headings: recommendations of protein intake; nutrition, mean life span and diseases; dietary fats and ischaemic heart disease; alcohol consumption; and dietary carbohydrates and health. General recommendations regarding micronutrient consumption are also given.
