The authors investigated the effect of subcutaneous injection of Silubin-Retard produced by Chemie Grünenthal, West Germany (1-butyl-biguanide hydrochloride) on the course of experimental infection with APR-8 influenza virus of mice. The dose of the virus used for infection was 1 LD50. The preparation was given 24 hours prior to infection in a dose of 20 mg/kg and it was given during 4 days. A good protective effect of the agent was observed. The mortality of mice fell. The authors stress the necessity of watching for the potentially antiviral activity of drugs derivatives of biguanide having various pharmacological properties.
