The basic concepts of insect control by release of sterile males are described and discussed in relation to the control of Anopheles and Culex. Recent field experiments on the release of males of C. pipiens fatigans Wied. (p. quinquefasciatus auct.) sterilised with tepa and with thiotepa [cf. 60, 1910] are briefly reviewed.
